Special Events

Westwood Recreation Department's mission is to provide outstanding experiences and diverse services to all of the borough's residents.  Each program and event presents an opportunity to gain appreciation of Westwood's parks and recreation facilities and encourages family and community involvement.  Our special events add a special hometown touch to annual traditions and celebrations.   See our 2023 Summer Event Flyers below.

Seasonal Craft Events

Snowmen out of Model Magic, Egg Decorating, Pumpkin decorating -- these are just a few of the seasonal craft events hosted by the Recreation Department and led by our children's art teacher Bernadette Flood of Colorful Warriors.  Children have the opportunity to explore new art materials in a low-key setting with friends, while parents play assistant to their budding artists.  These events are free but do require registration due to limited space.

Egg Hunt

This annual Springtime event attracts Westwood's youth who are eager for a visit with The Bunny and his friends.  More than 9000 colorful 'hunting" eggs filled with candy and treats are collected by the children.  This fun, festive first outdoor event of the year sets the tone for welcoming Spring and a return to outdoor activities in the parks!

Children's Halloween Parade

Greeting the ghosts, ghouls of Autumn is an annual tradition in Westwood when the Recreation Department leads children on a short parade through town.  Post parade gatherings include candy-bag giveaways, entertainment and other special treats of the season.   To see photos of our 2020 Halloween Parade held on November 7, 2020 visit www.facebook.com/westwoodnjrec

Summer Concert Series

The first week of July heralds the beginning of Westwood Recreation's Summer Concert Series.  Attracting music lovers from all over the Pascack Valley, our 50 year old Summer Concert Series, staged in Westwood's historic bandstand in Veterans' Memorial Park regularly "sells out" --- turning the lawny into a jam-packed outdoor festival of singing, dancing and Summer reunions!   Bands range from well-known cover bands of rock, country and pop to nationally recognized tribute bands including Tramps Like Us, the number one Bruce Springsteen tribute band.

Summer Movies in the Park

Residents of Westwood and nearby towns grab chairs, blankets and their picnic baskets to catch family-friendly films in Veterans' Memorial Park.  Films range from popular animation, nostalgic musicals, recent releases and the occasional cult-classic or sing-a-long.  These Summer films are held in August as the sun sets giving families a break from the heat and an entertaining evening with family and friends, a perfect entry into Fall.
